The term “Cobberdog” refers to a relatively new breed that originated in Australia.
It was initially developed as a successor to the Australian Labradoodle breed which was originally bred in the 1980s by crossing Labrador Retrievers and Standard Poodles for the purpose of creating a hypoallergenic guide dog.
The Australian Cobberdog breed was established to further refine the characteristics of the Labradoodle, with other breeds added all with a focus on developing consistent and predictable traits resulting in an Intelligent, intuitive, sociable companion dog with a low-to-non-shedding coat, suitable for people with allergies to other dogs.
The Australian Cobberdogs are known for being highly trainable, affectionate, and good with children and other pets. They often make excellent therapy, service, companion and assistance dogs due to their intelligence and calm nature. Our puppies are bred from pedigrees and lines with strong therapy/service dog history. Our puppies therefore are sold with therapy potential but this must be realized by ongoing committment to training and consistency to get the best from your pet.
This is definitely a case of both NATURE and NURTURE hold equal importance, working in concert for best results!
We recommend balanced diet consisting of mostly raw and whole foods for dogs. Associated benefits for their health and well-being include:
Also this diet reduces the odour of their poop and they fart less! What a bonus.
I make a healthy stew for my dogs which includes:
Leafy greens, celery, carrots, zucchini, sweet potato, pumpkin…
You can include pretty much anything EXCEPT ONIONS and GARLIC ( or only in very small quantities). If you are unsure about a vegetable or food – google it first from a reputable source.
I used to chop the veggies, but if your dog is a bit selective it might be better to process them, so they eat them alongside the meat without even noticing.
Quantity of food. Cobberdogs are not typically a greedy breed. Miniature Cobberdogs should have roughly 250g meat per day. It is good to provide them with some variety so you are not just dependent on one meat type only. Organic chicken is best but at least try to avoid preservatives and antibiotics for your dogs gut health.
I also recommend “MEALS For MUTTS” grain free kibble.
This is to have on-hand, as a backup but should never make up the not to make up main portion of your dogs diet. The more natural the state of the food, the better for your dogs health, vitality and longegevity. (Same goes for us too – we are what we eat!)
Cobberdogs have a lovely fleece which gives them a lovely teddybear look. They dont often need bathing since dirt/mud tends to fall off them and they dont really have much of a doggy-smell either. You might like to brush your dog on a semi regular basis, perhaps while watching your favourite show, or take then to the groomers once in a while. If not brushed their fleece will become matted and then needs to be cut out which can leave them looking a bit scruffy- best to keep make grooming and a trim a regular habit!
